Another year is over and so here’s another update, this time for Q4 2016. As I mentioned in my last quarterly update I was jamming all of my trips into the last half of this year, so we’ll say I was on vacation…even though I probably wasn’t.
I’ll do a quick brag about my trips to start this off and get it out of the way. Read more
Where does the time go! Now we’re three quarters of the way done with 2016 and it seems like I haven’t done anything. So in true procrastination fashion, I’m jamming it all into this last half!
It seems like every year I jam all of my vacations in the last half of the year and try to rush and get my yearly goals done. I took two weekend trips this past quarter with my beauty of a girlfriend. The first one was for my sister and her fiance’s stag and doe party to farmland Ontario. The second was for our good friends and neighbor’s wedding back to my old stomping grounds of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Read more
Andddd here’s another one! The second quarter of 2016 is over and it seems like time is flying WAY faster than normal. There’s not a whole lot to talk about that happened in this quarter but there’s one major thing you may have heard of.
On May 3rd, my second home of Fort McMurray, Alberta was evacuated. Over the next few weeks 15% of the town was burned to the ground and the majority of the city had major smoke damage. I happened to be extremely lucky and wasn’t in town, was scheduled to fly back the morning of May 4th. Which is now starting to become a trend for me, avoiding major disasters by a day. In 2013 my other hometown of Calgary, Alberta had a major flood that caused billions in damages throughout the province only weeks before their biggest tourist attraction, The Calgary Stampede. Luckily, I wasn’t there for that either, flew out of town for 2 weeks the day before it happened and the evacuation order was lifted just before I got back. I’m like a disaster dodger and I really hope that trend doesn’t stop! Read more
So a year has gone by since my first Q1 update and basically since I started this blog. So I’ll be looking back at the entire year to see how I did with my goals. First a quick recap of the year.
I started this blog in the last few days of March in 2015. I started it with the intention of just getting a creative outlet in my life that I can share some thoughts and stuff on my trips and inspire people to start planning their financial futures a little better and earlier then most start to plan. That idea turned into more of a focus on personal finance since my personal life took a big turn and I wasn’t in a good place to talk about it, even typing this now is difficult.
2015 Q3 update!
Hello everyone! I’m back after an almost 2 month hiatus with my 2015 Q3 update. First let’s recap what has happened in the last three months cause I’m sure some of you were wondering where I disappeared to!
I managed to keep my Monday and Thrusday posting schedule for about a month, then it dwindled and I ended up stopping posting all together. The last half of August was insane at work, lots of people on vacation so I ended up working 11 days straight of 12-13 hour days. Add a one hour commute on either end of that and it REALLY didn’t leave much time for anything other than eating and sleeping.
After that ridiculous 11 days of work I hopped on a plane for my old stomping grounds of Halifax, NS. I ended up spending the long weekend there for my good friend’s bachelor party and then spent the following Monday and Tuesday catching up with some friends I haven’t seen in 4-5 years. It was a pretty awesome time. I got to spend some time at the Boardroom which was a very nice spot, great place to sample some new board games and surprisingly good food too. It wasn’t all play though, I did end up with a business meeting to get some more information about some business in Halifax I am looking into. I unfortunately can’t divulge much information on it at the moment, but it’s exciting for me nonetheless!
Alright now on to the finances!
As many of you probably know the last 3 months were less than stellar in almost all markets. The S&P 500, which is an index of the top 500 companies trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) drop 6.94%. Not good, we don’t like drops at all, unless we just came into a pile of money and were planning on investing. This was the same for almost all other major indexes or markets, the Dow Jones dropped 7.98%, the TSX dropped 8.17% and almost all other markets. (I say almost all, but haven’t thoroughly checked everyone so maybe a couple had a good quarter! )
So with that heartwarming and optimistic intro how bad did I do? Actually not as bad as I thought…
So how’d your first 3 months go?
Well my whole goal for the first three months of this website were basically just to get 10 articles up and then start sharing this with family and friends. I managed to get the ten articles up in my first month, so that went a little better than I initially thought it would. Most of the articles were personal finance and only a handful were travel related.
After those first ten articles I started to falter a bit with them so I decided to make a schedule for myself, which is the current Monday and Thursday updates. This started off with one update on Monday and then I got some terrible news and life got put on hold for two weeks at the end of May. Once the terrible news started to turn around and things got back to normal I started back and have hit the 4(5 including this one!) deadlines I’ve set for myself since I started back.
I’m planning to keep up the Monday/Thursday posts pretty consistently from here on in. So keep checking back for my
Wait, I thought this was a net worth update?
You’re partially right, for me it’s actually more of an update in general about this site. A big part of it is the net worth to see if I’m continuing to increase my wealth as planned but also I’ll be using these updates to set a few goals for myself. Reviewing your life and what you thought would happen over the next 3 months from 3 months ago I think will really help me achieve more in life, not just financially but in my career and personal life as well. But since you asked for it
ON TO THE NET WORTH UPDATE! BA DADA DAAA!
